Thanksgiving in Guyana

It was almost like heaven...eating Thanksgiving dinner with the 20 elders from the Berbice and Canje zones.

If you are a parent of one of them, see if you can locate him in one of the photos below.

The tables are set in the covered area where we normally park our cars. The door to our kitchen is open in the background.

In spite of a lot of shortages here in Guyana of our traditional Thanksgiving fare, we served chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade rolls, fruit cup/whipped topping, pumpkin pie and pumpkin cake.
I'm sure all left the premises with full stomachs...some even with belly aches!

Meet the four zone leaders:
From left to right, meet Elders Dayton, Hamilton, Fillerup and Moala, who is a Tongan from Salt Lake City. They were all complaining that their tummies were too full as I took this photo. I think they sat down on our driveway curb just to rest them a minute before they took off to do their missionary work.

Sadly for us, Elder Dayton was being transferred to Trinidad the day after our Thanksgiving dinner so here is our farewell photo with him.

The cook looks like she had been cooking over a hot stove all day. As a matter of fact she had been!

Thanks to you, the missionaries had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. I thought of you as I made only one dish for our Thanksgiving feast. I knew you were working harder and would have a livelier group to eat with. We admire you two.

Sister Bullock,
Thanks again for taking such good care of the Elders. I love seeing the pictures of them. Elder Lang looks great. Thanks for the stories of the people in Guyana. We are learning so much. We appreciate you and Elder Bullock.

I had a bad car accident, injured my back and we were not able to finish our second mission. La Rae
